For the first time, the Wyoming State Library has created a staff position specifically geared toward the needs of school libraries, teacher-librarians, and other school library employees.
“We want to support the staff in our school libraries,” said Jamie Markus, Interim Wyoming State Librarian. “They play a vital role – they’re teaching the information literacy skills our students need. Hiring a school library consultant will enable us to provide these employees with resources and guidance they can use.”
This new professional librarian position will be the first point of contact at the Wyoming State Library for school library employees who have questions or need to consult an expert. This person will create, manage, and deliver training and act as a liaison to educational entities, government agencies, library organizations, and other stakeholders.
“Research has shown that a strong school library program improves student achievement and that staffing is a key component behind a quality program,” Markus said. “We’re excited to take this step to support those members of the Wyoming library community who work in the schools.”
